Tyrosinase with antiviral properties against Hepatitis C virus
A team of CSIC researchers has co-discovered that an enzyme present in the white mushroom (Agaricus bisporus), called tyrosinase, has antiviral activity against the hepatitis C virus by means of an inhibition mechanism different from that of the usual drugs. NANOMATERIAL AGAINST COVID-19
José Miguel Palomo leads a team of researchers who have succeeded in obtaining this nanomaterial that can be used in masks and gowns for health personnel as well as in knobs, doors and handrails.
They apply the product to a mask and it blocks the coronavirus and its spread. This is the scientific breakthrough created by José Miguel Palomo from Malaga.
He is leading this CSIC research that can be applied to face masks, protective fabrics for hospital use and in the coating of contact surfaces, such as handrails or knobs on public transport.
It has also been successfully applied to metallic materials such as steel and iron.
The material, which has already been patented, contains copper nanoparticles with a single oxidation state, which allows a high biological activity to be obtained that has not been observed so far with other compounds.
Its results and efficacy could soon be in sight. The new material could soon lead to the arrival of anti-viral masks that are much more effective than the current ones.
